First Impressions of Edinburgh: An Autumn Couple Photo Session with Julia and Nil

Meeting Julia and Nil, a lovely couple visiting from Spain, was such a joy. It was their very first morning in Edinburgh, and they chose to spend it with me, exploring the city and capturing memories to take home. As outdoor enthusiasts, they were eager to soak in every moment, and their excitement reminded me of how magical Edinburgh feels when you’re seeing it for the first time.

Kicking things off at 8 a.m. might sound ambitious, but there’s something so peaceful and intimate about the city in the early hours, especially when it’s dressed in warm autumnal colors.

Autumn in Princes Street Gardens

We began our journey in Princes Street Gardens, where the season’s colors made the setting even more enchanting. The trees, dressed in shades of amber and deep brown, framed the towering Scott Monument beautifully. Julia and Nil strolled hand in hand along the paths, their easy laughter blending with the gentle rustle of leaves underfoot.

Up to Calton Hill

Next, we made our way to Calton Hill, one of Edinburgh’s most iconic viewpoints. The climb rewarded us with breathtaking panoramas, from the terracotta rooftops to the rolling curves of Arthur’s Seat in the distance. The earthy tones of the landscape, paired with the crisp autumn air, made the scene feel like something out of a painting.

The wind on Calton Hill, as always, had its own plans, but Julia and Nil embraced it wholeheartedly. With laughter and windswept hair, their good mood brought such life to every shot—unposed, authentic, and full of joy.

Hidden Gems Along the Royal Mile

From Calton Hill, we wandered down the Royal Mile, a street that’s oh so charming, especially in the quieter morning hours.

I took Julia and Nil to a couple of my favorite hidden gems: a close with a beautiful heart-shaped ivy growing against the stone wall and the peaceful Canongate Kirkyard, where history whispers through the centuries-old headstones.

These tucked-away corners of Edinburgh are like secret worlds, perfect for couples who love to explore beyond the beaten paths.

Why Autumn in Edinburgh is Just Perfect for Couple Photo Sessions

Julia and Nil’s session was a perfect reminder of why Edinburgh is such a dreamy destination for couples, especially in autumn. The warm hues of the season, the cozy atmosphere, and the city’s endless charm create the perfect setting for capturing love stories.

Whether it’s your first visit to Edinburgh or part of a meaningful celebration, this city has a way of wrapping itself around your story, making it unforgettable.

What I love most about what I do is meeting incredible people and hearing their unique stories. Spending the morning with Julia and Nil was no exception—they’re such a wonderful pair, full of kindness and warmth. I learned that Nil runs ultra-marathons (how impressive is that?!), and it’s these kinds of little details that make every session feel so personal. It’s not just about the photos but about connecting with people and sharing in their stories, even if only for a moment.

Last but not least, I'll drop here Julia's feedback, that left me humbled and speechles:

You are a magician! I’m like so blushed, I feel beautiful in these photos something I haven’t felt in a long time. And I was dying to have our love immortalised forever in pictures. Thank you so much Andreea we love your work and we loved meeting you! We won’t hesitate asking you again when we come back to Scotland! Thanks❤️
I hope you feel proud of yourself! You have a natural talent and also I can feel the care and time you take to cultivate your work!

If you’re visiting Edinburgh—or anywhere in Scotland—and want to capture your adventure, I’d love to create something magical together. From exploring hidden gems to iconic landmarks, your session will be an experience you’ll cherish forever.
